Ah, the Beautiful Canals of Venice....

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

California that is.

This is the third, and final part of our train trip from Seattle to L.A. Make sure to catch up on parts 1 & 2.

We had little less than a day in L.A. before returning home. Marsha, in an effort to minimize her time off, would be working from the hotel. So that left me, out seeking trouble on the streets of downtown L.A. I made it about 4-5 miles, checking out the architecture, feeling sad at the homeless camps, and overall enjoying stretching my legs after a 35 hour train trip.

Marsha decided that clocking out early would allow her to see a bit of city too. However, the monster of carrying our luggage reared its head. Having heard of a service called BagBnb, we thought we would try it out for ourselves. There are several baggage storage services out there, that allow you to drop off bags for a short time, BagBnb just happened to be the one we had heard of. Using the app we found a place close by Venice Beach, just a short half mile walk away. So we grabbed an Uber and got dropped off outside a large fence with no apparent way in.

It turns out that the place was also a hostel. Once we rang the bell and got in we were greeted by beautiful outdoor area with nice shared sleeping areas inside. I would consider staying here, except my wife and I aren't much into exhibitionism. The attendant took our bags, labeled them, and then off they went to be locked away until our return. We were able to get them about 4 hours later, just before heading to the airport. Overall we are were very pleased with the service and will definitely have to make use of it, or one like it, again.

The Canals of Venice, Ca.

Once free of our luggage ball and chain we meandered through the multi-million dollar homes of the Venice canals. Most were beautiful, with each providing their own charm as they overlooked the slow moving waterways. We even found a tiny Thai restaurant that had wonderful food overlooking the canal.

We then meandered out onto the pier and then down the boardwalk. People of all types passed by as we walked, making for an entertaining afternoon. However, all too soon it was time to head for our flight, returning us home to Utah once more. Fully relaxed from a wondrous weekend, we accepted our fate.

Next up, our duo search for a vehicle of adventuring proportions.
