Everything Not Country In Nashville

Nashville has one of the coolest car museums we have ever been to.

Not what you were expecting to hear about the city was it?

We arrived in town at lunchtime so our trip started with conveyor belt sushi. So.much.fun. So easy to overindulge. So worth it.

Atlas Obscura, one of our favorite travel guides, led us to our first stop of the day, the Lane Motor Museum. It's such an unassuming building when you arrive but oh my, if you like unusual cars, this is a must see. We've been to some classic car shows but they are nothing compared to what's on display here.

The last one is just me practicing my road rage.

Be prepared to spend a couple of hours taking in all of the uniqueness this place has to offer.

Did you know Nashville has a Parthenon?

Originally built for Tennessee's Centennial Exposition in 1897 as a temporary structure, it was the one building the citizens couldn't bring themselves to tear down. Patchwork was done until 1920 when it could no longer be repaired. Instead of simply demolishing the building, it was rebuilt to last the test of time, much as the one that inspired it.

The reconstructed temple is an exact size and replica of the one in Athens, Greece both inside and out.

I need to go to Greece to verify this for myself.

Speaking of large and interesting objects weirdly located in Nashville, there is a sea serpent hanging out in a park!

You think this would be enough for one day but no, not for us.

We attempted to see the Old Tennessee state prison (it's a stunning building) but even though it's no longer in use, it's still off limits as the gate guard made very clear when we drove up the road to take a picture.

That's okay, a better picture was taken from the side of the main road where he had no authority.

To be honest, while I like country music but I'm not a die hard fan and Dave doesn't really care for it so that aspect of visiting Nashville wasn't on our itinerary of things to see. We attempted to stop at the hotel near the Grand Ole Opry because it was supposed to have amazing Christmas décor.

Attempted was as far as we made it. Too much traffic. Too expensive to park. Just too. Instead we went to dinner and a movie.

Of all the sights we saw this day, the couple dressed up for the nutcracker inside the movie theater was the one that really made me smile. It was a great way to end a day full of delight.
