Get the hell into Dodge!

If you like the old west Dodge City is a must visit. The downtown area celebrates both the historical and the fictional history that made it famous. Bronze statues and plaques are scattered throughout, showcasing not only real life characters as Doc Holliday (who Dave is trying to have a conversation with) but also the television heroes from Gunsmoke (James Arness who plays Sheriff Matt Dillon was kind enough to pose with me).

Why mix a fabricated story with true history? You young folks can ask your grandparents about Hollywood's longest running, live action, prime time TV show. It ran for 20 years from 1955 - 1975 only losing its title to Law and Order in 2019.

While you're here, check out the steam engine. It's just cool.

This impressive piece of engineering sits right outside of the Boot Hill Museum. The museum does an amazing job of mixing traditional displays with technological interaction. There are several large screens with crisp recordings of actors who blend in with their surrounding displays. This gives the effect of listening to people talking to you, or each other, not just a static recording of information.

Not that the displays are anything to complain about.

Except for the horned furniture, of which there were a few examples. I find those sci-fi creepy.

Naturally, I couldn't keep Dave out of trouble.

But, that's why I love him.
