Going To Jail In New Hampshire

And you can to!

Concord, New Hampshire has this delightful Mexican restaurant, Margaritas, which rehabilitated the local police station.

What's unique about this restaurant is it created a happy incarcerated feeling by keeping the iron jail cell doors and part of the jail cell size but opened it up with paint and partial walls so you're not feeling completely like a prisoner... of anything but their margarita flight!

Four delicious flavors keep you from having the jail cell blues.

Prison food aside, Concord was a lovely town to spend an evening driving and strolling around. We fell in love with the smallest town clock we've ever seen.

But there's more to do here than eat and tell stories about your time in the clink.

The Mount Washington Cog Railway is a great way to spend a Saturday morning. It takes about three hours total to ascend, walk around the summit of Mount Washington, then descend.

While most of these single cars are moved along by biodiesel engines, they still uses a pair of century old steam engines during the summer.

You may ask yourself what's so awesome about taking the long way to the top when you could drive there faster?

For one, it's just a beautiful ride.

For another you don't get to stand up and feel how steep the 25 - 38% incline really is in a car.

The camera is level for both these shots.

The guides, are naturally, quite entertaining but the final reason is that these trains actually do move via a cog, which we haven't experienced yet.

Mount Washington likes to boast it has the worst weather in the world. According to the observatory at its summit...

...winter conditions here rival those of Mount Everest and the Polar regions even though it's only 6,288 ft.

I can hear the people from Alaska and Colorado smirking at this but it's true.

The confluence of multiple jet stream patterns, altitude, and geography gives Mount Washington a fickle attitude, the second fastest wind speed recorded on earth and what's called a Venturi effect. Something akin to putting your finger over a garden hose with the faucet fully open.

Ouch.

This is also part of the Appalachian Trail. People hike up here. Which I read you should plan on layers and at least eight hours with the descent is not being faster than the incline.

After having chosen the easy way to the apex of this beast we thought we would finish our day by adding to our collection of Jeep Badge of Honor trails list by visiting Jericho State Park.

I have enjoyed all of our Badge of Honor trails for one reason or another. For some though, once is enough. This is one of those trails.

Was it beautifully wooded? Yes. It's so lovely here.

Was it overly busy and therefore we had to wait on people? Nope.

Was it nothing but small boulders and large rocks which is less than rock climbing but still constantly jars you as you drop off one rock before going over another?

Yep.

The pictures do not do this place justice.

Was it fun? Definitely!

Are we glad we went? Of course!

It's always fun to try different terrains. But ladies, wear the good sports bra.

Our time in New Hampshire may have ended on a bumpy note but we'd still come back to visit.
