Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks

Ahhhh the big breasts of Wyoming...they are spectacular. Seriously, leave it to the French to name a set of mountains, stunning as they are, big breasts aka the Grand Tetons.

As practiced scenery gawkers, we couldn't miss out on visiting these beautiful peaks while staying in Idaho. After all, on a clear day you can see them from the family farm.

Being fully vaccinated doesn't change our general preference to not be around throngs of people and with Memorial Day fast approaching we knew we would have to go soon...and so we did.

The day was cool enough to require jackets, even when hiking. Throughout our trip, a cold, clear blue sky alternated with a cloud covered heaven, both of which contrasted beautifully with the snow capped mountains offering breathtaking views of our hosts.

Wanting to see as much as possible with a minimal amount of time available to us (a few days really is needed to thoroughly enjoy and see the Tetons) we opted to take the boat ride across Jenny Lake, cutting almost 3 miles off of the round trip hike to Hidden Falls and Inspiration point.

Hidden Falls is a short detour off the trail to Inspiration Point but is totally worth it.

Once past this diversion, the trail to Inspiration Point has a moment of...determination. Fortunately, it isn't as bad as it looks...unless of course you have a couple of tall, lanky young men darting past you from behind at a running pace without announcing their presence first. Then it's a tad startling.

It may surprise you to know, that despite the majesty of the mountains and the beauty seen with every step taken here, there is a much smaller scene stealer here. One who will not only take your coffee but threaten to climb your pants leg and go through your pockets looking for spare food.

It's only a mile one way with a 500 ft elevation increase to reach Inspiration Point from the boat landing but after having spent so much time nearer to sea level, there was a lot of heavy breathing going on to get there. At 7200 feet it provides an incredible view of the surrounding area.

Being the scenery gawkers we are we couldn't be this close to Yellowstone and not check it out especially since while we've both been a few times, I had yet to experience Old Faithful. The lack of crowds hinted that maybe this time I could.

So while our time in the Tetons had given us perfect weather, Yellowstone was a bit more...temperamental.

Admittedly the snow was fairly localized enabling us to stop at few places to enjoy the scenery.

Most importantly, I finally got to watch the venerable Old Faithful spit, spew and steam, which made me happy.

As we attempted to exit the park, our long day of visual overload was completed by a bear sighting.

I tell you though, he seemed unimpressed that his photo was taken by so many humans who were quite excited to see him. Celebrities...sheesh.
