Let the Renovation begin!

Ow…Ow…Ow. Crunch…crunch…crunch.

I really thought after spending months painting the walls and baseboards for the house we sold that painting The Pub aka our new RV would be a breeze.  I was wrong, so very wrong. I’m sore in places I forgot I had plus it’s taking much longer than I thought it would to paint the living space. Cabinets are a completely different beast from what I’m used to, requiring both a step ladder to reach the top (which is at an angle due to Utah’s need to have the streets taper off into moats before reaching the sidewalks) as well as being so short I feel like a contortionist trying to paint the undersides.  It’s been four days now, including the sanding prepwork, all I can say is ow (repeatedly)…this old body did not practice yoga before beginning this project and I’m seriously regretting it.

Considering the Pub was perfectly fine on the inside when we bought it, we are making a lot of immediate changes with a list of updates for later.  We also keep asking ourselves “didn’t we just do this?” HA! The answer is both yes and no.

I was thinking about this very question the other night. Yes, we renovated and updated our house but we really never got around to decorating it. I brought what I had when I moved in, merging it with what he had, then pieces were randomly picked up for whatever was we needed without giving much thought to any particular style. A number of the “new items” were stuff I picked up from the thrift store with plans to refinish and upcycle them later…later, by the way, did not happen often I’m ashamed to admit.

With the Pub, it’s all about decorating in our style.  With such a small space to work in, every choice matters. This has been an….interesting (yes, that’s the word we’ll use)….experience. Dave has a preference not so much for true minimalism but he doesn’t like to feel overwhelmed with objects. I on the other hand, love having things on walls and knick knacks lying around. I want to live like a hobbit with warm dark woods and colors embracing me, Dave wants more light and less darkness. It’s been quite the time picking things out together. It’s also why choosing every option has taken days of scouring hundreds of choices.

Personally, I like where we’re headed decor wise. Not every choice is my first one but that’s part of marriage. I’m still happy with how it’s turning out and so is Dave, that’s what really matters.  We’re going for a Steampunk traveler look and I think we’ll eventually get there.
