My, You Have Pretty Rocks

Sedona, Arizona.

I've been wanting to explore its red rock trails, enjoy the stunning vistas, and just bask in its beauty for the past couple of years.

We finally book a couple of weeks here and I spend most of that time in Georgia.

Oh well, such is life. We'll make it back here again I'm sure.

While I didn't have as much time as I would have liked, I did get one beautiful Saturday driving along one of the trails with stunning views (I'm pretty sure most of the trails around here are incredible though).

I'm a little jealous of Dave. While our time together exploring was sunny, one of his solo adventures out saw a hot air balloon hanging lazily in sky along and seeing how lovely this place is both in sunshine and storm.

I bet it was even prettier in person.

Nature is stunning. The red rocks glow when struck by the sun's rays. Even without solar assistance, the multilayer colors striped across rocks dotted with greenery is really something to see.

Gaining elevation lets you see how massive the valleys are and how varied in structure the rocks can be. You also realize there is more plant life than you might expect.

We hiked around one of the more popular overhang areas trying not to interfere too much in a couple's wedding / engagement photoshoot. But you have to expect photo bombers when you're in a well known public place. The overhang had more scrub brush than we were expecting when we decided against staying on the well defined trail (it looked like it wasn't returning the direction we came from so we took a "short cut").

We survived with only a few minor scrapes and no damage to our clothing despite the stabby branches best efforts.

This was the perfect outing after a long week and I'm so glad we we stayed around the top of trail until sunset. The scenery was spectacular and the way the light played with the camera was fun to see.
