Northwest OHV Park, Bridgeport Texas

In travelling to Texas we had just spent a couple of months in Arizona, an off-road paradise. I hadn't really spent much time in Texas but I knew there was lots of space so I figured finding places to explore in the Jeep that didn't include pavement would be an easy thing. However it turns out that Texas highly regulates their off-road activities. There are a few off-road parks to visit though.

Just before leaving Texas we decided to visit one in Bridgeport, specifically so we can grab another Jeep Badge of Honor. Our goal as we travel the United States is to see how many of these we can get. This is number three.

The two days prior to our arrival were filled with spring storms. I'm not talking a misty rainfall either, but torrents of rain with 1-2" a day. This means that the Iron Butterfly would get her first experience in real mud.

Some of the trail conditions

Overall I was really impressed with how the Wrangler did. Even being slightly more than stock she handled most of the mud really well, taking us through holes that were around two feet deep with only minimal sliding and slipping. We only got stuck once and that was trying to avoid a big hole, to only get high centered going into another one.

Climbing on the bumper to hook up recovery gear

Luckily a local Jeeper was able to help pull us out. We took a quick drive through the park car wash (lake) and home we went.
