Swords, Cigars, and Burlesque

Welcome to the Texas Renaissance Faire!

This amazing month and a half long spectacle is a must see. It's one of those Ren Faires that has not only been around forever (2024 is the 50th year celebration) but has managed itself so well that it exists on a vast land with multiple kingdoms offering wares and food from buildings designed to immerse the traveler in the realm of make believe.

With a constant stream of performers on several far flung stages, fitting in all of the entertainment and shopping into a single day is a challenge. If we find our way back (fingers crossed) it will be for a weekend, there's just too much to running around to catch everything.

We stopped to watch Wolgemut, the Spice Boys, the Barbarian Bombshells, and the Global Dance Theater Troupe among others.

There were street performers! The living statue was a terrifying delight for unsuspecting children.

And the shopping!

While there were definitely carryover shops, there were also plenty of unique stores to keep you popping in and out to see what's available.

We paid the extra money to watch the royal parade from the Wyrmwood Public House because it came with having your glass of champagne filled by a green fairy sitting on a swing. How cool is that for an experience?

The Pirate Queen was another guest of the Wyrmwood. Is she not fantastic?

So what was unique about the Lone Star state's Ren Faire?

It still had smoking areas in the pubs. It had a kiosk building which sold cigars. Best of all, it had burlesque.

After the parade we were invited inside the Wyrmwood to have a sneak peak at a  tantalizing taste of the full on burlesque show happening later that night. For those unable to enjoy that delightful offering, a mostly burlesque show after dark was in one of the open air stages. Don't worry, no one under 21 was allowed in and the stage was so far back those minors attempting to peak from the street would have needed binoculars to see anything more than bright lights and blurs.

God bless Texas! This was the most enjoyable Ren Faire we have ever been to.
