Syfy Bartow

It was sheer luck I tell you!

And that's the best kind.

We had been at the Peace River Campground since Sunday with no plans for the weekend when on Thursday I ran across a Syfy convention happening barely 30 minutes away.

Fortunately, we always have party clothes on hand.

Unfortunately, some of them need a little tweaking or repair and we only had two nights. Nevertheless, it didn't take much for Dave to pull together his steampunk Green Lantern outfit and for me to put create (for the first time) a generic pirate's look, although I did have to buy the hat and sword at the con.

We've gone to the Comicon at Salt Lake City, which is massive, a few times but Syfy Bartow is something else entirely. For one, it's held in downtown Bartow on the streets not inside a building. Totally amazing.

For another, it's very much a community event. It has a wonderful home town feel while still being a good sized con with lots of quality vendors.

Even though this year's theme was Star Trek

My favorite group of the whole event

Star Trek meets the 50s

The Star Wars fans were well represented.

There were others of course, even Krampus showed up to enjoy the sunshine.

Even the cars were dressed up! There was a whole street of decked out vehicles.

There were sword fights, musical acts, but the best was the Miss SyFy contest which was won by the dapper and talented Penguin.

He was our favorite as well.

Syfy Bartow is amazing event put on by a wonderful town. We were so happy and lucky to be a part of it.
