We came. We saw. We hiked for miles...

...just not all in one day thankfully.

The trails that wind their way through Glacier are beautiful and diverse. We took three different hikes during our time there, each one unique.

There was the side trail off the Speery trailhead with its towering trees, huge boulders and fallen logs. The woods was devoid of noise except for us and what I’m sure was a single squirrel that followed us, screeching occasionally for us to get out.

We traded being surrounded by forest for the wide expanse of endless meadows, cut through by a long, steep, wooden walkway when we hiked to Hidden Lake Overlook. I personally found this hike to be a bit strenuous but the random children running up and down the walkway assured me, it’s just me.

Our last trek, a search for waterfalls, was just beautiful. The path that leads to St Mary’s and then Virginia Falls also includes a few smaller waterfalls along the way and an abundance of foliage. This was our early morning adventure fueled by coffee, chai and the general excitement of wandering loose in Glacier with no real agenda.

My favorite site by far though was dawn breaking around the mountains at Logan’s Pass. Clouds sitting on top of the valley being struck by rays of light in the early morning hours. It was amazing.
