Where It All Began, Kind Of

There is a story we've been told in school for time upon time, about pilgrims, who landed on this new land, stepping out of the ship onto a rock in their new home to be. On December 26th, 1620, this step was made, and it is now immortalized in the form of a rock in the town of Plymouth Massachusetts.

There is a lot of history in this area, and I'm not going to try and recite it all, but we had a fun visit, getting to see the rock, a replication of the Mayflower and a memorial dedicated to the founders.

And Now the Rest of the Story

What doesn't get told as often is how 5 weeks before this landing in what is now Plymouth, these same pilgrims landed at the point of Cape Code, which is now the town of Provincetown. Can you imagine having to tell everyone after many months across the sea, back on the boat, we've still a little ways to go?

This vibrant city is a standout for LGBTQ+ now. It is so welcoming and friendly, with a night life that shines, even during the week. We easily could spend a week here soaking up the relaxation. There is even a monument, built to remember the real first landing. Also, if you want an entertaining story, lookup and read the history of the city.

For us, Plymouth was a fun but one time visit. Provincetown, on the other hand, is a place we'd like to return to. I think maybe the Pilgrims knew it would be more fun than they could handle, and promptly moved on to a safer location.
