White Sulphur Springs, MT

Montana never ceases to amaze me.

We expected our second trip here to be an uneventful one as we were staying in a small town with less than 1,000 people away from, well, anything. We were partially correct.

For the most part our stay was a mellow one except for the food and when we went exploring. I still can't comprehend how such a small town can support two superb eateries, with one of them not inexpensive...but so worth it.

On a whim, we decided to eat at a place called The Jawbone. We had no idea what the menu was but we wanted to eat out. Imagine our delight upon entering a cozy restaurant with a speakeasy feel to it.

And the food. The food was incredible.

Mahi Mahi with a pineapple salsa, Indian Waygu Sheekh Kabab, and Brie en Croute (with a to die for huckleberry sauce). Simply amazing.

Then there were the mountain excursions during our time here. Not exactly off-roading but still so enjoyable. Our first trek held an entirely new experience for us. We've done some minor rock crawling, some mudding, and quite a bit of desert trails but this was our first meadow experience.

Yes, I know, meadow driving is not technically challenging but ladies wear the good sports bra. I can't remember the last drive I was on that was so consistently jarring and bumpy. As seems to be the way of this state, fortunately, the scenery was beautiful. Not only that, the area was diverse, making the rough ride across the meadows a small price to pay.

Our second outing involved less off-roading as well than we had hoped for and was more picturesque. Still, you can't complain about views.

When our departure day arrived it found us in town watching a local parade, strolling through a classic car show afterwards and visiting a local historic manor house turned into museum (the interior moldings were gorgeous!). What a way to leave a place!

I have to share a photo the statues at one end of town in this final thought. I loved them. They put a smile on my face every time we passed by.

White Sulphur Springs turned out to be an unexpectedly charming small town.
